What it's actually like to own one
The Labradoodle was created in Australia in 1989 by breeder Wally Conron, who was trying to develop a guide dog for allergy sufferers. It sparked a global movement, and the breed remains incredibly popular โ especially the Australian Labradoodle lines bred for consistency.
Labradoodles combine the Lab's friendliness and the Poodle's intelligence and coat. But there's significant size and temperament variation between litters depending on generation and breeding โ an F1 from a Standard Poodle can be 30kg, while a miniature cross is 10kg.
Get clarity on the expected size and generation before buying. With the right lines, you get one of the most family-friendly, trainable, social dogs available.
๐ Training snapshot
Labradoodles have an independent streak โ early, consistent training is key. Short sessions with high-value treats work far better than repetition.
