What it's actually like to own one
Border Collies are the Einsteins of the dog world — and just like a restless genius, they can be a handful when under-stimulated. They think, problem-solve, anticipate your moves, and learn new commands in under five repetitions. It's genuinely remarkable.
The hard truth: Border Collies need 2+ hours of real exercise daily plus mental stimulation on top of that. A bored BC will herd your kids, chase shadows, or systematically dismantle your garden. They're not suited for most suburban Australian lifestyles unless you're truly committed.
For active owners — runners, hikers, farmers, agility enthusiasts — a Border Collie is in a class of its own. For everyone else, this is a breed to admire from a distance.
🎓 Training snapshot
Border Collies pick up commands quickly — start basic training from week one and keep sessions short (5–10 mins). They respond best to positive reinforcement and treats.
