What it's actually like to own one
Dachshunds were bred to hunt badgers underground, and they haven't forgotten it. They're brave, stubborn, curious, and absolutely convinced they're the biggest dog in any room. Their confidence is borderline delusional and completely endearing.
Here's what trips people up: Dachshunds bark โ a lot. They can be difficult to train because they'd rather do what they want. And their long spines mean IVDD (back disease) is a genuine risk โ jumping on and off furniture needs to be managed carefully.
That said, they're low-exercise, apartment-perfect, and fiercely loyal to their person. Live with their stubbornness and you get a dog with more personality than most breeds twice their size.
๐ Training snapshot
Dachshunds have an independent streak โ early, consistent training is key. Short sessions with high-value treats work far better than repetition.
