Well-socialised Chihuahuas are confident, funny, engaged companions who form bonds of remarkable intensity. The breed's terrible reputation is almost entirely an ownership failure, not a dog failure.
Here's the failure mode to avoid: because they're tiny, owners skip the socialisation and training every dog needs — no puppy school, carried everywhere, snapping excused as cute. The result is the trembling, snappy stereotype. Treat a Chihuahua like a real dog — socialise hard, train consistently, let them walk on their own four legs — and you get a real dog in miniature. Their physical fragility is genuine (toddlers and big dogs are real hazards), they feel Australian winter mornings keenly, and dental disease is near-universal without daily care. Commit to two decades; they certainly will.
